About Portland Backpacks for Bellies
Portland, like many communities, is concerned about food insecure children. At PUMC, we are pleased to be able to assist our local non-profit organization, Portland Backpacks for Bellies (PBB), by providing a place for this group to store their donated items and assist in preparing backpacks for distribution.  Our UM Women donate some of their time each month to helping this organization.
To find out more about this small organization, contact them through email PortlandBackpacksforBellies@gmail.com or checkout their Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/portlandbackpacksforbellies/

About Portland Backpacks for Bellies
PBB is frequently asked how our organization is doing throughout these difficult and uncertain times. We are proud to report that since the beginning of our current pandemic we have been able to continue serving weekly meals throughout the past 2020-21 school year, which entails our new summer program along with virtual and in-person students and families. Through gifted grants, generous donations and the open doors of the Portland United Methodist Church we are able to keep our shelves and stockrooms fully stocked to continue to do what we do best, serve the increasing need throughout our community. Thank you Portland, we couldn’t do this without you!

Please know the backpacks:

• Are given to participating students each Friday in their schools.
• Are filled with ready-to-eat, or easy to prepare, foods such as granola bars, oatmeal, shelf-stable milk, fruit, and crackers.
• Are distributed to students in a discreet, and caring manner. Students’ names will be kept confidential by the school and not shared with the Portland Backpacks for Bellies program.
