As the Hands and Feet of Christ, service is important to us. At Portland United Methodist Church, we believe in being active in our community and loving our neighbors.  Here are a few of the ways we have found to serve with love.  Come join in the fun.

Marching in the Holiday Fest Parade
Picture
This year Portland's Holiday Fest Parade had a new entry in its parade, the PUMC Snow Shovel Brigade! A great time was had by all.  We practiced our marching routines:  the square dance, covered bridge, and kaleidoscope.  The rain waited until the end, and our joy still runneth over.

Halloween at PUMC
We planned on hosting a Parking Lot, Trunk-or-Treat Event, but the weather was really nasty so we moved the event's location inside. When the six o'clock warning sounded Halloween's official community opening, we turned on our Halloween music, both inside and outside.  The community kids and their parents began to come in droves!  What fun!

Cass Community Services Mission Trip
Cass Community Social Services is located in Detroit and works across the city of Detroit addressing the needs of the poverty stricken and homeless and provides programs for food, health, housing and jobs. For the past several years, PUMC has traveled to Detroit to participate in a mission trip.  This year, 2019, we spent a day, 9 am - 4 pm, helping with their current needs: a tiny house projects, lawn mowing, and recycling!

Blessing of the Pets
On Sunday, October 6th, PUMC hosted a blessing of the Pets Event.  Pet lovers throughout the community were invited to bring their pets and God's blessing was celebrated for by all.

Portland Community Day
What fun was taking part in the Portland Community Day on August 24, 2019. The weather was perfect, the vendors were plentiful, and the community spirit was awesome!  A big thank you to all who came, who served, and who participated in the fun and food.

PUMC gave out free water to those who were thirsty, pinwheels for some good old-fashion fun for the kiddos, and read stories to the children who stopped by to hear... Clifford was a favorite!

One United Service at the Red Mill Pavilion
We sometimes meet as ONE UNITED SERVICE, a time when both our Traditional Worship Service and our Praise Team Worship Service come together to worship.

Although our doors are always open to anyone to come and worship with us, on July 28, 2019, we met as ONE UNITED SERVICE at the Red Mill Pavilion as a service open to all who cared to stop and worship with us.

"For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”
 --  Matthew 18:20

Red Mill National Prayer Day

Prayer is important to the strength of our community.  Thank you to those who took time to pray for the Portland Community!

Foodbank Relocates to PUMC

Picture

During this past winter of 2019, Portland United Methodist Church opened its doors and provided helping hands to move the Portland Community Food Bank from its Kent Street location to our church due to flooding caused by ice jams that formed on the Grand River.
